About ED

Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED) is the term used for a group of genetic conditions which are familiar to having two or more ectodermal structures affected.

Ectodermal structures include:

  • Hair
  • Teeth
  • Nails
  • Glands such as (sweat, tear and mammary)
  • Skin
  • Nerve cells
Body structures which can be affected include:
  • Eyes
  • Ears (hearing)
  • Throat
  • Digestive system
  • Respiratory system
  • Muscles, Fingers and toes
